KFC's Secret Recipe Fries replaced the much-loved Potato Wedges in 2020, and the new product doubles down on processing. The fries contain two separate wheat ingredients — bleached wheat flour AND durum wheat semolina — plus MSG, hydrolyzed soy protein, and a dedicated seasoning pack. They're vegan by ingredients, but firmly off-limits for anyone avoiding gluten.

R.I.P. Potato Wedges In spring/summer 2020 KFC replaced its long-running Potato Wedges with the new Secret Recipe Fries. The Wedges had a simpler ingredient profile — potatoes, oil, seasoned coating. The Secret Recipe Fries are more heavily engineered: two types of wheat flour, MSG, hydrolyzed soy protein. The company has since occasionally brought the Wedges back as limited-time offers.

Important — read before you eat Ingredient formulations change, sometimes with no public announcement. Allergen risk at any fast-food restaurant depends on the specific location, the time of day, and the staff on shift. For severe allergies, confirm ingredients with the restaurant at the point of ordering, and when in doubt, ask about fryer and equipment cross-contact.
